Dean Cafardi received his undergraduate education
at the Gregorian University in Rome, his master’s
from Duquesne University, his J.D. from the
University of Pittsburgh, and his J.C.L. and
J.C.D. from the University of St. Thomas in
Rome.
Before joining Duquesne University as Vice President
for Legal Affairs in 1988, Cafardi served for
13 years as general counsel for the Catholic Diocese
of Pittsburgh. He was appointed dean and professor
of law in 1993.
One of America’s leading experts in Canon
Law, he served three years on the Board of Governors
of the Canon Law Society of America and is currently
a member of the national Council of Catholic Bishops’
Review Board for the Protection of Children and
Youth. He also chaired the Pennsylvania Supreme
Court Commission on Race and Gender Bias in the
Judicial System.
