“Knowing what the law is and understanding how the law works are two different concepts. Duquesne does an excellent job of teaching each student true understanding of how the law works. Each student must first learn the basic skills of research, writing, and solid oral communication. Only then can a student start to learn ‘the black letter’ of the law and how to apply it to different situations. Also, students must learn how to build successful relationships and contacts with their peers and their professors as well. Duquesne’s presence in the legal community is readily apparent, and those students who learn to become part of this community tend to be very successful as professionals. Finally, a Duquesne law student will learn that his/her education should not stop after graduation. Every Duquesne law student should realize that although the law is slow to advance, a Duquesne lawyer should be quick to improve his/her skill as a compassionate and caring lawyer. Furthermore, a Duquesne graduate should realize that the ability to practice law is a gift and those with such ability have a duty to practice law for the betterment of their community. Duquesne Law School teaches these ideals, for understanding these ideals is to truly understand the law.”
