“To
me, teaching taxation at Duquesne Law School offers
more than simply an opportunity to instruct students
in the particulars of the Internal Revenue Code.
The mission of the school allows me, in fact compels
me, to give students an appreciation of how a
tax system (1) reflects the social policies and
innate prejudices of society and (2) can and should
be used to promote goals of overriding importance
to society. While discussing the intricacies of
the tax laws, I can also show students how the
policies underlying those provisions reflect our
patriarchal society. Additionally, the size and
congenial nature of the school provide me with
the opportunity to discuss issues that interest
me, such as historic preservation or ecofeminism,
with like-minded students.” |
