
2009 Summer Study Of Law Participants
Introduction
Practicing attorneys are invited to attend an overlapping CLE program with Duquesne University's Summer Study of Law in Vatican City. Exact dates for 2010 are not yet published.
A three-day in class program covering three subjects and offering 11 substantive and one ethics hour of CLE credit.
This program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board for eleven (11) hours of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit and one (1) hour of ethics, professionalism or substance abuse CLE credit. |

Site Visits
As a part of the program, there will be site visits to the Roman courts of law and Rome's four major basilicas (St. Peter's, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and St. Paul's-outside-the-Walls). It is also anticipated that participants will visit the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and will have tickets for the general Papal Audience on Wednesday during their stay.
Class Schedule
The classes are offered
during one-half day sessions, leaving the rest of
the day and weekend free for you to explore
Rome and the rest of Italy.
Classes will be taught by Duquesne Law School's faculty.
Classes will meet from 9 a.m.
to 1:15 p.m. with a break from 11 to 11:15 a.m. Anticipated schedule:
- Day 1: The Legal Process of Canonization (Prof. Ricci) and Professional Responsibility (Prof. Astorino)
- Day 2: Roman Catholic Canon Law (Prof. Cafardi and Fr. Vallone)
- Day 3: The Modern Structure of Italian Courts (Prof. Stewart)
Along with a Supreme Court Justice of Italy and the Supreme Court of Italy administrator, Ms. Titti Svampa, we will discuss the Modern Roman Courts of Law and tour the Palace of Justice in Rome.
The ethics credit will consist of a review of the Roman Influence on the Development of the Code of Professional Responsibility.
All classes are held at the monastery, Casa Per Ferie of the Trinitarian Fathers.
