Scholarships

Genevieve A. Mealy Scholarship

Students who have achieved a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in their Paralegal Institute studies are eligible for consideration for the Genevieve A. Mealy Scholarship, the Paralegal Institute's highest honor. Other criteria for the scholarship award include:

  • Scholastic excellence
  • Participation in paralegal program activities and paralegal or professional organizations
  • Community service or pro bono activities
  • Noteworthy letters of recommendation
  • Outstanding essay on the value of paralegals in the legal profession
  • Financial need

Application details are circulated to current Paralegal Institute students. The scholarship recipient is announced each year at the institute's ceremonies in December. 

 

Lambda Epsilon Chi

The Paralegal Institute maintains a chapter in the Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), the National Honor Society for Paralegal Studies. Students and recent graduates who have completed a minimum of seven (7) courses in the program and who have a 3.5 GPA are eligible for LEX membership and consideration for the group's scholarships. Induction of new chapter members occurs at the Paralegal Institute's December ceremonies.

Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation Scholarship 

The PMAHCC Foundation Scholarship Program accepts applications from January 1 until April 30 for the scholastic year starting in the fall.

Awards range from $1,000 to $2,000.  Grant amounts are evaluated for each applicant depending on individual need or merit and the foundation's available funds. Awards are not renewable, but students can re-apply each year as long as they meet all the eligibility requirements and enrollment can be confirmed.  

To be eligible, students must: 

  • Reside in one of the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Westmoreland or Washington County
  • Demonstrate unmet financial need of at least $1,000 after the financial aid award package has been determined
  • Have at least one parent of Hispanic ancestry (at least one of applicant’s grandparents must be Hispanic)
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • Enroll as a full-time student 

To apply, students should review the PMAHCC Foundation Scholarship details, and submit the application and required materials to the sponsoring organization. 

 

Other Outside Scholarships

Students may be eligible for other outside scholarships. The Paralegal Institute sends current students information as it becomes available.
