Monday, December 11, 2017

Professor Tracey McCants Lewis, Duquesne Law’s associate clinical professor and pro bono coordinator, received a prestigious Community Leadership Award from the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh this month. The organization bestowed the honor during the Ronald H. Brown Leadership Gala, which is named after the former United States Secretary of Commerce and former National Urban League Vice President.

More than 500 civic, corporate, foundation, and community leaders attended the December 8, 2018 event. The annual gala highlights the relationship of mutual respect and partnership between the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and the corporate community.

The League's Community Leadership Award honors outstanding individuals, organizations or corporations in the Greater Pittsburgh community who exemplify leadership in improving the quality of life for African Americans. McCants Lewis shared the award with co-honoree Mark Clayton Southers.

Before welcoming McCants Lewis to the podium, the audience watched a video featuring Ken Gormley, Duquesne University's president, and Billy Joe Jordon, Sr., chairman of the NAACP’s Labor and Industry Committee, speak about how McCants Lewis rose from law school student to lawyer to community leader.
